The Lapworth Players, an amateur dramatic society, now over 30 years old, is one of the many active societies in the village. We put on at least two plays a year at the village hall.
One show a year is designed to appeal to all ages and is often, though not always traditional pantomime either professionally written, or written by talented members of the community. The run lasts for five performances and generally attracts an audience of 600 in total, it is usually greatly enjoyed by cast, stage crew and audience. There is often opportunity for children to take part in this production.
See some photos from our productions:
Pinnochio (2007) When We Are Married (2007) Dick Whittington (2006) The Last Bread pudding (2005) Aladdin (2000)  Pinnochio (1992)  Sleeping Beauty (1991) Lady Windermere's Fan (1991)
Our spring show usually has a smaller cast giving opportunity for members to have a go at some character parts. It is often produced "in the round" and generally plays to an audience of 300 over the three or four night run.
We are looking for new members, particularly people in their twenties and thirties as we find it hard to cast plays with parts in this age range. We also need people prepared to produce. New producers receive a lot of help from an experienced team of back-stagers.and support from those who have suffered the agonies of producing previous plays.
In addition to involvement in the productions the Players also have social events; a members' evening, an annual dinner, occasional theatre trips, play reading evenings and fund raising socials. There is also a subset of the Players, known as the Kingswood Singers who meet up monthly to enjoy singing for pleasure.
The youth theatre section, that does a production each year, is an outlet for the dramatic talents of village youngsters. It is open to pre-teens from school year 7 or above and teenagers.
