LapworthA Warwickshire VillagePubs in and Around The Village |
As in many places, mid week evenings can be quiet in local pubs. There are many reasons for this, but most people are more aware of drinking and driving which probably has some effect. Also beer prices in in the area are high. The pub trade routinely complain that customers are buying drink from supermarkets instead of pubs, and it seems likely that supermarkets might be discounting to the bone, but perhaps the pub trade should ask if the prices they charge are detering customers too. It is true that often, it can be hard for pub landlords who have to pay rents that reflect the boom times of the nineties, and it follows that the owners as well will probably have to adjust their profit expectations to suit the current market. It is noted that Birmingham and Solihull prices are often less than those in this area.
The Navigation Inn
An old country pub with open
fires, and a traditional bar which has its original slate floor. The
canalside garden is popular with families (and ducks) in the summer.
Guest beers are changed regularly.
Good value food is served. It is often quiet Sunday and mid week
evenings. Current management have not made many changes and they have kept it as a country pub rather than turn
it into a restaurant. Tel: 01564 783337
The Rowington Club
Formerly the Rowington Men's Club, (ladies are very welcome). It has been transformed by the present stewards and attracts many customers from the surounding pub/resturants who do not prefer the atmosphere of a resturant.
It is a member's club, annual fee £20 in 2010, so guests must be signed in by a member and obtain a day pass, but the drinks are usually less expensive than the surrounding pubs.
Situated next to the cricket ground, the garden is a great place to relax and watch a game.

The Boot
is
a resturant/pub close to the Statford canal and marketed as "posh
country". It has open fires and hand pumped beers. An extensive quality
menu is offered 'though at premium prices. It is popular with
diners. More resturant than pub
though and folk have been chucked off tables in the bar in favour of
diners. Tel: 01564 782464
The Punch Bowl
is a modern building built on the site of the original pub that was demolished in the early nineties following a
fire. The old pub was a music venue of note in the 60s & 70s. Pink Floyd played there in May 1968, and it was on the circuit for many of the Birmingham bands of the 70s.
Again more restaurant than pub and it is sometimes closed for private parties. So if you are visiting from a great
distance, it is probably a good idea to phone them first. Tel: 01564 784564
The Tom O The Wood
is currently closed (3rd June 2010) and it isn't known when or if it will re-open.
